In line with the upcoming International Youth Day celebrations, Pennel Skills Development Foundation (PSDF) in association with the Regional Delegation of Youth Affairs, is thrilled to announce the maiden edition of the International Youth conference.
The conference which will focus on empowering youths and young professionals with the entrepreneurial mindset is scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 11, 2018, at the Youth Animation Center, Buea Town. It will run from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm on the theme: “Youth Entrepreneurship & Innovation: Enhancing Safe Spaces for Youths.’’
The conference which will run annually seeks to showcase best ways of engaging youths, young professionals and other individuals of the community in implementing successful and sustainable development strategies towards creating initiatives that strengthen youth development in Cameroon.
It also seeks to create networks and avenues that improve and foster access to adequate information, training, finance and technology. All these will help curb most obstacles most young persons face in their ventures. It will also reshape their perceptions about business development and sustenance for community development.
Why the conference?
According to Nyah Penn, Chief Organizer of this conference, “Youths need safe spaces, a forum where they can come together, engage in activities related to their diverse needs and interests, participate in decision-making processes and freely express themselves. Safe spaces ensure the dignity and safety of the youths.
“Young people are essentially the leaders of tomorrow. If we put in place proper mentorship and guidance mechanisms, they can lead society towards a better future. However, a large percentage of the youth remain in the background, unrecognized and struggling to make ends meet. With increasing population, the incidence of youth unemployment and illiteracy are rising at an alarming rate.”
